4/20/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 20. April 2010 22:33

This week in our school building is state-wide testing.  It is definitely a big deal for teachers, administrators, students, and school districts.  I think teachers really feel the pressure because so much depends on how much or little "affect" they had on their kids.  We teach all year for the test and yes, I know there are ways to get creative, but there are points where we are drilling and killing the students in order to get the best results possible.  Point being, everyone is stressed out about the tests but I think a few simple things could also improve test scores:  HOW CHILDREN EAT!  If each child came in with a well balanced breakfast (I realize a lot of my students' families cannot afford to even feed them breakfast) I think it would help their brain power.  Yesterday many of our students raised their hands to say they did not get enough sleep nor did they even eat breakfast.  They need brain fuel in order to think...NOT sugar cereals or pop-tarts either.  I wish I could provide well-balanced, healthy meals for all my kids everyday.
