9/28/09 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Monday

If you Follow my rigid diet are you never able to dine out again?  Absolutely not!  However, the first few months of the diet JC advised me to eat out as little as possible.  That way you can really focus on changing your eating habits and making some headway with your weight loss.  If you are eating out a lot, it really is difficult to tell if the change in diet has contributed to losing weight and keeping it off.  What should you do if you are being social and it's really not an option to dine out?  My advice is to eat your 2-4 oz. of meat with the serving of starch ahead of time.  Then, go to the restaurant and just order a salad.  The trick is to make sure (especially at the beginning) that your salad doesn't have a lot of additions to it.  For example, make sure it comes without bacon, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, taco strips, and beans (unless the beans become your protein for dinner and you do not have some other sort of meat before you go out).  It is not like you can never eat out unless you order a salad either.  But, after several months of really sticking to the diet and learning about portion control, lower in fat meats and starches, and avoiding butter, fried foods, or creamy sauces you will have developed the habits and knowlege to make better choices.

My friend stuck as well as she could to my diet last week without having gone to the grocery store to purchase many of the foods I eat.  She lost a pound!  Yay for her!  This week she has bought a lot of similar foods and is sticking more stringently to the diet.

Hey Katie! Smile I even worked out tonight!! I have a question... I am not a big meat fan... well I am weird. I go through times where I eat it and enjoy it but lately the idea of meat and even chicken doesn't sound great. Do you know of any other great ideas instead of meat?! Thanks!!
